Bows, Arrows and Integrity
« on: June 10, 2010, 12:57:00 AM »
Well guys and gals now I have really gone and done it. Only longbows one the rack. I traded a recurve today for a 54" and a 58" Treadway Black Forest.   Also bought a JK Traditions Kanati in 58" today. Put todays prizes with the shrew and now which to go to.  When I shot compounds I was happy and content with just one.   I do not even know another traditional bow hunter. Does this site send out a signal to turn me into not only a lover of the longbow but also a better human being?  People here apologize to one another when toes are stepped on, donate time, money, goods, blood, sweat and tears to help out others in need. And most do trading on an honor system. My name is Scott Treadaway, and my hat is off to you. Thank you for allowing me to come in and rub elbows with some of the best people God has chosen to walk this earth.

This sure is the finest bunch of folks I know around here!!  I was the same with only 1 wheelie bow, but I love my longbows and if I had the money I'd probably have a whole garage full with different specs and all the wood combos I like.

I love your signature line!! LOL  that is the truth!!

It's kind of sneaky how this place with its great people lure you in, then raise the bar of your life for you without you realizing it until.... its too late, you're a better person for it.

Sometimes it happens so subtly that it takes some folks a very long time to figure they have been changed somewhat in a positive way.

I know that I am a better person because I've rubbed up against some of the "best" you could ever ask to interact with even if its just here in the cyber world.

Things really start to get "way cool" when you have opportunity to actually meet some of them face to face.

Keep on coming back to the campfire cause in my experience it just keeps getting better with time.

Ditto what Mudd said. Hang around for awhile and you may not recognize the guy that watches you in the mirror.     :)

SkottyBoy, it is so GREAT because the people on TradGang are as close to what GOD intended as any folks.

If you watched or took part in the Auctions, you laughed some, said OH, WOW, and lastly probably had your eyes tear up at the generosity of these great folks.

Man, it is fantastic to be part of "it". Not even mentioning the fun we have actually shooting/hunting with our bows.

Welcome, and enjoy.

Trad Gang has been a real boost to me. I felt that nobody, other than my next door neighbor, had "old fashioned" values. He and I felt like we were only ones left.

Then, I found TG. I am renewed with the spirit that mankind can be KIND.

I too have found that longbow guys are some of the best out there.  Maybe that is why my family only shoots longbows.  We want to be around people with the same likes as us.

It is good to belong to a forum where there isn't a bunch of my bow is better than yours or my choice of broadhead is better than your choice.  I was on another forum for a while but hardly ever posted, just sat back and watched fans of one brand bash fans of another and I realized that there was no longer any reason for me to stay a member on that site so I logged out and haven't been back.  I came over here after a brief sabbatical from archery forums and have been well pleased.  I already look to some of you as my favorites because of your kind words to others and honest to goodness desire to help newbies to trad like myself out.  Glad to be part of this forum and look forward to maybe getting to meet some of you in the future.  God Bless.

I can't figure it out.  Some kind of magic that all bowyers build into their bows?  But you sure are right on the money.  I think just being around some of the high class folks around here raises the bar.  You see so many things being done and the generosity of others it just makes it hard not to want to try to be like them.

I know there are a bunch of people in AR that are just like you.  You just need to find them.  Do you have a state organization or are there traditional only shoots in AR?

He may not know it, but he does have some trad shoots.  There is an all trad shoot the 19th of this month at Hollabend Bowhunters Club in Russellville AR.  It's alot of fun.

Last time there were opossums in trees, running hogs, targets where you have to shoot thru holes in trees or stovepipes, clays, ping pong balls on strings, stringwalks, deer behind fences where you had to float an arrow to the kill that was hidden, and all manner of cool shots.  One target was timed.  You placed a marble in a 6' long pipe with a steel bucket at the other end and had to shoot before the "ding".  Good times.

Shoot me a PM if you are interested in going to the shoot or just going stumping.

Hey thanks for the invite bornagain. The thing is I work weekend option in the ICU. Its great being off during the week. Less pressure.  But it kinda makes me a lone wolf. If any guys around north east Arkansas want to or have time to get together during the week give me a shout.

I too am amazed by the quality of people on this site. I've been on a number of different forums of all types. There are always a couple that ruin it for me, and I'm just reading, not involved.
I'm a taxidermist and we have taxidermy.net. Some of my friends that are taxidermists are always on it. I rarely get on because every time I do somebody is getting slammed. I don't care for that at all. On this site it is positive, Thank you all for brightening my day for me.

I feel the same way about all the people here. I'm proud to be a part of it. With all the newbie questions I've asked, I've never felt talked down to. I've always been treated with patience and encouragement. It would have taken me years to get the knowledge I've gleaned here elsewhere.

I'm not sure if Trad archery instills good values and integrity, or if people with good values and integrity are drawn to Trad archery. Either way I love being here.

I feel like I know a bunch of you and hope I can meet you someday. I'm sure I could pick Mudd out of a crowd!!  (I mean the hat)   :)

I'm with COLongbow on this one.  I'm pretty darned new, too and no one has EVER made me feel dumb for asking questions.  To the contrary, I haven't met more helpful, humble folks that are willing to share their hard earned wisdom with the likes of me.  I'm not even a "forum" guy, but after stumbling onto this site and reading from the sidelines for a while, I got sucked in, too.  Best thing that could've happened  :) .  And we haven't even gotten started on the extreme generosity of these people either...amazing people here.

You will find that Traditional bowhunters are the salt of the earth.  Moral values, open minds and kind hearts.  Go to one of the shoots and see for yourself in person.  I could relate story after story of how association w/ these outdoorsmen and women have touched my life.  Glad you have chosen to be a part of it.  Enjoy.

Another observation I've made.

With all the fun we have here with our toys, there's always the undercurrent of ethical responsiblity we should have in regard to the animals we hunt. Accuracy, sharp broadheads and humane and fair hunting practices.

I started a thread a while back about whether I should stick with the bow I had then or go to fancypants X, Y or Z bow.

Terry Green chimed in with "How's your shooting coming?"

Wow. Bam. Reality check: Shooting skills are number one and no glitzy veneers are gonna make up for any lack there. I needed to hear that. Thanks Terry.

So now I have an awesome bow (LC) that I would have never heard of without Tradgang, and that voice in my head saying it's always the skill that counts.

I must admit it, right here......When I signed on here, the Only Trad Bow I had was a Pearson Colt Recurve that I LOVED to Shoot, and a Compound. I still have the Compound, stashed away, just in case a Grandchild or a  GOOD PRICE  makes me dig it out! Anyway, I had Heard of LongBows, but had  NO  Interest in them.
NOW  that is  ALL  I Shoot!! The  ONLY  Bows I Look at to  BUY , and the Only Bows I Tend to  DROOL  Over!!   :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :archer2:
