Draw length...FF string and a bow???
« on: June 17, 2010, 07:44:00 PM »
I have to ask a question on behalf of a person inquiring about a string.

A person PM’d me about wanting a string but was told that because of his “extended” draw length (31”) that he didn’t recommend FF on the bow with that draw length.  I have not heard this but wanted some input from some bowyers.  I can’t see a reason why this would be.

The bow is FF approved so that isn’t an issue…the issue was that the draw length and the FF combination was a bad thing for the bow.

I draw 29.5” and shoot as short as a 56” bow (60 @ 29.5”) and have had no problems with this set-up shooting a 14 strand D-97.

Just wondering!

Thanks,

Josh

That's two new things I've heard today.  Still waiting for feedback on the other.

I'd ask why. Someone could write a book about "old wive's tales" concerning just strings--and many of them I've heard from bowyers.

If I can't get a reason, and especially if it goes against my own experience, I generally write it off as another fable.  Not to say that some folks don't sincerely believe it, but just because someone believes it doesn't make it so.

I'm no bowyer, but I do draw from 30".5-32"(depending on the grip).  I've been shooting the same longbow for about 15 years as my main bow, and it's never had a dacron string on it.  FWIW, I pull [email protected]" on it.

And I may add one bow is 65# and the other is 70#
