Nice pictures. My family and I are going to a traditional shoot today. My daughter is only 11. Kids are often the best students.
Until next time...good shooting,
Lee

What kind of bow is that young lady shooting?

Looking to buy a "recurve" bow for my 6 yr old son and don't really know on where to begin.

Swiper:

Here's our theory on this topic. It may not be the most popular opinion, but...
We have 4 children.  3 of them are old enough to shoot.  They all use inexpensive fiberglass bows that you can get for $20 or so.  The one you see in the pic is the most popular one we have.  It's on loan to us.  It's an old red glass bow that someone painted camo.  I'd pass it back to 4runr (who loaned it to us), but it is the most shot kids bow we have.  Our reasons for going cheap include:

1.  They all take differently to the sport...if at all.  We want to be sure they are really in to it before we personalize the bow.
2.  They grow fast and will move through bows fast.
3.  We don't have to worry about them stepping on them etc...
4.  They are easy to shoot and accurate.  If you don't think so, shoot one yourself.  They're fun.
5.  We are saving their first personal bow for later in life.  We feel they will appreciate a personal recurve / long bow more when they are older.  In fact, we have a couple of 25# dual shelf Bears waiting to get them through until age 12-15 depending on strength etc...

Just an opinion to consider.  I will say there are several high quality kids bows that are made by sponsors here and they are mighty tempting.  Building a gift for your child is also a fabulous way to go.
