Easton Axis Full Metal Jacket ???
« on: June 23, 2010, 11:39:00 AM »
Has anyone tried this arrow?  I am thinking about getting a half dozen of them but if anyone can give me pros or cons about them it would really help.

Pros, great arrow.  Cons, expensive.

Pros great arrow comes out of targets well Has proven great on game for me.

Cons it is not the toughest arrow out there. If you miss your target and hit something hard they will bend. The regular axis will hold up a little better.

Overall I am still shooting them must mean I like them.

They seem to run about the same price (give or take a couple bucks) as Grizzly Sticks.  I know they are a sponsor of Trad Gang so I looked up this thread:

I know a tapered shaft is a very good thing on a meat target, but is a thinner shaft ever more desirable?

Only con I know of is that they are expensive.  I have some I reserved for my hunting arrows; love the small diameter and smooth finish.  I think they are tough; I've sent one with field tip protruding through a 6" fallen tree limb, but have also snapped the whole fletched end off of one like breaking a pencil when it deflected under a 3-D target and slapped the ground.  It driven into an immovable object they will mushroom just like a bullet, but the "x" nocks are all but impossible to robin hood.  For the above reasons I have dedicated them to hunting and shoot less valuable arrows for everyday.

They bend!  Keep that in mind, all this 8 times stronger than steel crap??  I shoot Beeman ICS bowhunter shafts, same legendary Easton quality, just a bit cheaper.  I liked them, but I shoot carbons because I dont like how aluminum bends, so i wont buy them again.  I will shoot Beeman MFX classics which are basically the same thing for the same price but they are eons tougher than full metal jackets.

I shot them when I shot a compound and I didn't care for them.  I got a good deal on a half dozen so I decided to try them out.  I don't think they have any advantage over all carbon or all aluminum.  They bend upon hard impacts or completely mushroom.  I am using the Beman ICS Bowhunters and I think they are as tuff as anything else I have ever tried and half the price of most.  I liked the X nocks, just not impressed with the arras.

a guy at my club had those and he did not like em said they bend just like alum arrows and for the money he may as well shoot alum. i have tried them and do not care for them i shoot axis 500 carb arrows hard as nails and they do the job real well. nice and thin slip through real good. but we can no longer get em here. so i am having to try somthing else but what i dont know yet.
