July 17-18: MBH Rendezvous @ Marion Fairgrounds, Marion
« on: June 28, 2010, 10:56:00 AM »
So a friend of mine asked if I was hitting this event up this year. Truth is, I'm only about 6 months old in the traditional game, so i don't know quite what to expect from a trad show.

Anybody care to enlighten a guy on what I can expect, or is anybody else hitting this event?

This isnt a trad event.  This is open to anybody.  It is a 3D shoot and gathering put on by the Michigan Bow Hunters.  I have never been there but hear they put on a good one up there.

You should have gone to Comptons

Its not much different than any regular 3D shoot you could go to only it has camping and maybe a novelty target and one or two vendors.Targets are set up out in the open mostly. Not much woods.
If your shooting a longbow I would go to the GLLI in August, way more vendors and shooting events/courses, raffles, plus camping and longbows only.
I'll second the Comptons or the Michigan Traditional Bowhunters jamboree last weekend for other good options.

I'm the "friend" he's talking about.  Jon, this is a bow shoot for all types...Longbow, Recurves and even the wheelies.  Just a bunch of like minded people having a great time.  There is a wine tasing, bring a couple bottles, (the ladies enjoy that one) Friday night, and a giant pot luck Saturday night, a lot of 3D shooting, vendors coming out of the ears and mostly people just having a great time.  I know you can't make the GLLI seeing as your getting married then, but that is a Real Trad Shoot.  You will have to attend next year, not to mention the Kalamazoo Trad Expo in the winter, and did I mention our squirrel hunts in September.  Man I'm startingto get the shakes from the withdrawls.  When is it ever gonna get here?  LOL

You'll be fine Jon.  You will fit right in.

Why? There will be other fuzzy arabs who think they're hunters there?

lol jk. I'm actually pretty pumped about attending. I've yet to go to a trad get-together, so anything will be cool.

Where's this Compton event held?

Lots of trad shooters attend the MBH events.  The guys from our club go and have a good time every year.  I went to one a few years back and it was a nice shoot.  Haven't been in awhile though.

it is at Charlton Park with historic village.  They have a nice little white church.  You could do both.   :D
