Congrats looks great.I am lucky enough to own some land also. You will enjoy it more than you can imagine but will also be a lot of work.I love my land but it is a labor of love and you gonna get plenty of love but would not trade it for anything it gives me my sanity and my escape hope it does the same for you.P.S. build some kind of camp or shelter far away from the house, this will also help to escape.Kip

I just bought 40 here in western Kentucky last December, moved here in May. Place is covered with oaks of about six varieties and several kinds of hickory.

I just found a persimmon with fruit on it yesterday. About 25 acres of the land is in grass and lespedeza hay. Hasn't been cut in three years. I hope to get it bushhogged down and plant a feed plot.

I also retired when we moved here. I will be 62 in September and already applied for Social Security. It's a mighty good feeling to know I don't have to answer to some incompetent boss anymore.

Did I mention there is a little creek through the property and I've seen cottontails, gray squirrels and turkeys?

Getting my bow and arrow-making space arranged in the garage.

Just don't ever believe the most important thing in life is to get to do what you want all the time and experience pleasure.  Those things are great, but they're not the purpose of life!

Retirement is great!

Like Cherokee Scout said, Post It Now and be ready to enforce it.  We have 30+ acres of river bottom land and we constantly have road hunters shooting deer.

If you want to have the hunting for yourself and your family and a friend or two be ready to have to remind some people that it is now under new ownership and off limits and tresspassing will not be tolerated.

I also inherited a tree stand with the place. It's in a spot that might work for bow hunting, but I think it was placed by a gun hunter.

Don't think there will be much trouble with trespassers. All the neighbors keep an eye out on each others places and there just isn't much traffic on our road.

can I volunteer for a bear hunt?  Ill even eat the meat I promise.

I paid a lot of money for a bear hunt in Canada only to see two cubs and no shots.

I hope someday to be able to do what you are doing now.  Some day I will get there.  Congrats.

Your property looks much like my 30 acres in S.W. Michigan farm country. I also have a creek running through it from west to east. It is amazing how much wildlife is drawn to areas with running water. As a bonus, we built a small log cabin from scratch next to the creek two years ago. It is made from U.P. white cedar timbers we cut and milled using a portable saw mill run by a generator. What a blast! A serious "guy thing". Two years until I retire. I'm counting the days.
