Ideas for a Bear Hide?

Well, I recently returned from Bear Quest IV and I need some suggestions for my Bear hide. My first Bear and to top it off, taken with a longbow. I'm cleaning and bleaching the skull and I have the perfect place for it that won't upset sweet Wife. She's not one for a bunch of "stuffed critters" around the house. Any ideas for the tanned hide? I was thinking maybe a quiver. Any other suggestions.

tell me how close you got, not how far you shot

If I wasn't going to do what homerdave said (which is most likely what I would do!) I would use it for accents on the tops of quivers or bow cases, collars and cuffs of frontier jackets, etc.  I think you get more mileage out of the skin and a better looking finished product using it as an accent rather than using it whole.  My .02 anyway.

Get a rug done up, and hang it up some where in your 1/2 of the house

Mike, I think you should get a full mount done, sitting on his butt with a round piece of glass in his paws and use it as an end table!

Well, you asked! I've always wanted to do that just never had the cujones to try to pass it off on "She who must be obeyed"

I'll have to live vicariously through you!  :biglaugh:

I really like my BQII rug.      :archer:

I have recently been offered an old bear rug [ thats bad in the middle from cat Pi$$ ] with paws and claws attached... my plan is to take the lower part of the front leg [ after removing the felt ] and use  it to dress-up a back quiver for 3D....

This quiver will be fairly plain leather, but I'm going to stick the hide down into the top of the quiver about 6" [ partially lining it ] leaving a paw and claws hanging down on the outside aprox. 8" ... Then, take a bit more hide [with hair ] and finish trimming the rest of the rim of the quiver.. I've never seen one done like this.  However, I think it should look pretty nice and unique.

I've got some slippers partially made with tanned hide from a bear I killed. I had two other identical pairs made at the same time for two friends as a souvenir for some hunts we had together.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

Have it done the way you want it mounted, and then leave it at the taxidermy shop until you get her to kill one. After that, there won't be any problems.

Since my wife's first animal mount, it's been no holds barred. I always give her the option of hunting with rifle or bow. She mostly picks rifle due to her comfort level(she has wrist problems and a lot of flinging arrows is painful). Her mount count will soon overtake mine! She has taken 3 bears, 4 bucks, 1 moose, and a caribou.
I better start flinging arrows!

I hunted with Marty McMahon once in Alberta, Canada. He killed one, had it tanned whole. He had to stretch it to make a toilet seat cover...

Wait a minute-ever see the size of Gene's toilet?  He failed to mention that I bleached the skull and made my wife an ear ring.
