GT weights coming loose
«
on:
July 14, 2010, 08:56:00 AM »
Anyone have trouble with their GT weights coming loose inside the shaft and rattling? I've tried red locktite and I still have them come loose sometimes. Not all of them though. I guess it's like a impact wrench when the arrow impacts while spinning. It bugs the crap out of me to hear them rattle! I really tighten them down too and it still happens.

I haven't had any trouble with GT weights coming loose, but then I mainly shoot them in bag and foam targets.Even on the ocassional hard stump hit they have held tight.Do you know if it is the same ones that keep coming loose? Maybe the insert or weight may be alittle stripped, just a thought if it is the same ones coming loose.

Yep, I have the same problem. I usually only shoot in a bag, or foam deer target. I'd say about 1/3 of mine rattle. It is annoying.

I have two on the bench right now. I was thinking of using loctite myself. I have to take them to the shop to have them tightened.
I am seeing the same thing you are.

You might be tightening them too much. They will strip pretty easlily. I use a dab of hotmelt on the threads, just a small amount. I don't heat it, just put a piece of it on the threads and screw them together. They stay tight very nicely.

Hot melt glue on insert and weights works like a outsert, protects end of arrows when hitting hard objects.Been doing this for over 10 years.

I get a bar of soap and scrape the weight threads on the soap, then tighten hard. Mine don't rattle doing this...
Good luck,
Todd

I'm thinking of peening with a punch to lock them together. Its a gunsmithing technique.

All who have had trouble....or you shooting LW or RW feathers?
Switching feathers might not be a convenient fix but if it did fix it you'd be eliminating the problem instead of just covering it.
(Only have experience with tips coming loose with LW. Finally broke down, bought a RW jig, restocked on RW feathers...and wished I had done it sooner.)
