does this arrow set up sound right?
« on: July 17, 2010, 12:12:00 AM »
I've been messing around with Stu millers spine calculator and I would like to make sure this is going to be right before I go spending my hard earned cash. Im planning on getting some CE Predators and for my recurve thats 45@28 and i pull 28 1/4 with 1/8" before center ( i hope thats the correct term) side plate and B50 string it says I need a 4560 which is a .403 spine cut to 30" with a 250 grain point 11 grain insert and 3 5" feathers.Im fairly new to trad and arrow tuning so I thought I would get your guys' opinions.

I shoot .400 spine arrows out of my 55 pound recurve, cut to 29" with the 25 grain insert, and 250 grain points and they fly good out of my setup.  That sounds a little stiff for 45#'s but you never know.

I have to agree it might be a bit stiff out of that setup.  I shoot .400 spine out of my 57@31 longbow and shoot 175gr field tips up front to get tuned.  That being said you can probably get those arrows to tune if youre really wanting to shoot heavier arrows its your choice.  Good luck....Shawn

I can shoot 31" 340s with 250 gr from my recurve, 56@30, with a B50 string.  You are probably close but I would not cut to 30" until tested at say 31-31 1/2

I could see that working, given the length and point weight and you would have decent FOC.As stated, just start out a little long and gradually work into the proper length.

Just make sure you understand the degree of centershot and punch in the right figure for that as it can change things quite a bit.
