seen knife handles made with it. I'm interested to see bows with the limbs made with it, looks like it would be really pretty.

someone had a Turkey Creek longbow with spalted maple in the classifieds a while back.  Beautiful bow that would have been mine if it weren't a lefty.
Chasing my kids and my degree for now but come next fall the critters better look out.  ;)

Click on the pic, it gets big.
Click again, it gets even bigger.
Size does matter.

Yesterday, a magazine that seems to be devoted to guitars and fancy woods that are used in their construction came across my desk at work. I am a mailma'am. On the cover was a solid-body electric guitar made of spalted maple. Verrrrrry beautiful.
I dunno the name of the magazine, they don't spend much time in front of me once I see the name of the recipient, but it is an oversize flat that should be easy to track down. You might check out some musical instrument-type sites, and the wood-supplier sites to find what you want to see. Google goes a long way.

I have a lot of spalted maple lumber at the house.  It's one of my favorite woods.  Some thin stock and some thick stock.

As I look through lots of the "stuff" at the house, I must have half a dozen turkey calls; box, slate, trumpet, you name it....made from spalted maple.  I even have a Tippit knife with spalted maple scales.  Smaller objects tend to be more suited to spalted maple stock that is usually available.  I've seen lots of bow risers, or a portion of the risers, made from spalted maple (I've lusted over Killi's bow on Bob's web site).

The problem with spalted maple is that there usually tends to be some "punky" wood somewhere on the stock.  That being said, I happen to have some stock that was destined for table legs.  It is probably 3" X 3" and must be at least 4 or 5 feet long.  Pretty stable wood, but it doesn't have a lot of "color", just thin pencil spalting with some curls.  If you can't find anything suitable and you know someone who could rip some thin stock from it, you are more than welcome to it if you are willing to pay the shipping.

Killdeer I'm jealous.

Thanks everyone. Killy, that is a very beautiful bow!   i really like the spalted maple alot.  Getting into the Traditional THING this year has been AWESOME, i thought having a couple bows would be all i needed,LOL, but i guess not. There is way to much pretty woods out there. Going to be putting in another order very soon for my 3RD longbow since the beginning of the year ,which will be a two piece takedown.  Now this spalted maple thing has me thinking about number 4.   Hayslope, thanks for the offer i'll get back to you if i can't find what i'm looking for.

Greatbrownknockemdown,(wow!thats a mouthfull). If you are heading to ETAR you should stop by John Mccullough's booth and check out his spalted maple GRIFFEN. It may just be the sweetest looking bow I have ever seen. It's after Noon on thursday so I bet it is gone.
