Eclipse Broadhead ?
« on: July 28, 2010, 12:04:00 AM »
Have any of you tried the Eclipse broadhead with the new grind that is suppose to make them easier to sharpen? I have some of the older ones, and for the life of me I can't get them sharp. They fly perfect,I like the design, but its the only one I've had a problem with. Tips ,ideas, comments? Thanks -1Longbow

The ones I bought last year were a bit of a pain to sharpen up, tho they did get razor sharp in the end.  I used a file to get the grind broke a bit, then used a Lansky to get them the rest of the way.

I bought some 145 from Tim at braveheart last fall, they were VERY easy to sharpen, almost sharp enough right out of the pack.

What are you using to sharpen them? The older heads didn't have a very good grind. The newer ones are great. I have used a Lil Shaver followed with a ceramic stick to remove the burr. Last year I started using the KME knife sharpener with good results. I still carry the the Lil Shaver in my travel kit if I am away from home.

I used em last year and was able to get them shaving with just a file and jewelstick. Took me a while to get em right but I got it down to about 20 minutes a head.

I have used the Eclipse Single bevel for the past 2 years. I sharpen with the KME and it is a bear to get the proper angle but easy touch up after that. 6 kills and 6 pass throughs.

I just purchased some and I used a file on the tips as per Ron's recommendation at KME.  Then I used a KME Broadhead sharpener and they are very sharp.  I use the diamond stones then finish with hard arkansas stone.  I think the diamond stones make it easier to establish the edge.

I use the lil RADA wheelie sharpener... I am amazed as mine are 2 years old and have zipped thru everything... I think they are a lil harder and the initial edge is a lil slow, but MAN!!! They get scary sharp pretty easily!!!
