Bear S/S RazorHeads...thoughts???

Hey all!! I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts/experiances with the "newer" type of Bear Stainless Steel Super Razorheads? You know the kind,they were made in the 80's..they had a S/S blade,and a blued steel ferrule. They weighed 145grs. How are they to sharpen? How do they hold an edge?..Just any thoughts you have...thanks fellas!  Take care,Lee

The bear razor head has been and always will be one of the best broadheads ever designed. The Stainless version your talking about is just an attempt to make the orginal better? Great head.

I've been using that head for years, I experiment with others in the off season, but to this point have never found any I like better. For me they are very easy to sharpen and just as easy to keep sharp, they fly like a dart and do the job on big game whenever asked. The reason I have always looked for another head to replace them with, with no success to this point is that I pretty much shoot them exclusivly the whole off season, I don't use fieldpoints as I don't live near any 3D shoots.  I always use the bleeders when hunting, but of coarse cannot use them for practice. I would love to find a broadhead either 3 or 4 blade that I could practice with all summer that is exactly as it would be with all 3 or 4 blades intact during the hunting season. So I'll just keep looking and in the mean time enjoy using a big part of hunting history in my old bear razorheads.

I think you mean Blued ALUMINUM ferrule.It was an attempt to make the original CHEAPER.Junk.The original was a great broadhead for it's time.There are a lot of great broadheads.I wouldn't personally use any with an aluminum ferrule.

As Jim says, the ferrule is aluminum.  The blade is just stamped in place in the front and that always looked like a weak point to me.  Lots of folks have used them successfully, but there are many other heads that I would have more confidence in.  Besides, they are tough to glue on my wood arrows.

I`ve used them with happy results.They`re quiet going through the air when you shoot.I`ve heard some broadheads hiss,or something like that,when you shoot them.

They look cheaper than the 64's and they often look like a drunk 3 year old made them at the Bear factory when you observe the craftsmanship compared to the 64's or the magnus stinger.  That being said, they fly like darts, sharpen easily with a magnus acusharp, and tough as nails even with the aluminum ferrule.  I have used them since 2004 along with 64's but have since quit shooting the 64's 2 years ago because I just love how they perform.  I have taken pigs, deer, rabbits, a kudu, 2 impala, a warthog and recently a wildabeast with em.  They just work.

My experience with them was that they were not as strong as the original Razorheads.  They were easier to bend, especially when "working" them out of a tree!   :rolleyes:

My go-to heads for groundhogs....fairly cheap,sharpen easy and expendable...just unscrew and replace in the field. Killed a few deer with them in my compound days. Use big snuffers for everything else now.

Fly well, easy to sharpen, and quiet.  Never had any problems with them.  Great head!
