Flight Suit
« on: August 07, 2010, 02:00:00 AM »
A few years ago my sister and her husband sent me a flight suit for a halloween costume.  I was thinking this year of wearing it for the early doe season when it's still fairly warm as it is light weight but baggy enough i could put some bulk underneath it to stay warm if needed. The  Suit also has all kinds of pockets and is very comfy.

My concern is that the suit is chemically treated to prevent it from burning (which was tested at a halloween party!) and i don't know if this would have an odor a deer would find disagreeable.  Anyone ever try using a flight suit? I had also planned on getting some black dye to camo it up a bit.

Leave it outside for awhile, drag it around in the dirt, wash it and do it again just like you would do a new ghillie suit. Maybe even store it in a container filled with dirt leaves and cedar.

If you hunt the wind you should have no problem but Nomex tends to NOT breathe, wick,or insulate very well so its hot when its hot and cold when its cold. Your underlayer makes a big difference in comfort. Other hunting clothes work much better in most situations.

The old grey flight suits were not nomex and were chemically treated.  All I can say is Charlie never smelled me before I ---- Him.

Thank you everyone for the input.  I'm thinking maybe this wouldn't be the best item for the early season.

I think i'll suit up and head into the back yard to see how it feels.

If it is a green flight suit it should only be nomex(check your labels) and not chemically treated and you should be fine.  The only caveat would be if an aviator wore in the sand and treated it with permethian.
