Armguard for a 5 yr. old?
« on: August 12, 2010, 01:43:00 PM »
I need an armguard for my 5 yr. old little girl. The one that came with her Rhino longbow just ain't doing the job (too small and too stiff).  Any recommendations?

My 6y old and 3 yr. old little girls use the cub armguard from 3Rivers.  It fits well and while stiff, they don't complain that it's uncomfortable.  On a few occassions they have had the string hit their arm above the armguard.  I haven't found any others that seem to fit them.  Possibly one of the custom leatherworkers on this site can help you out as well.

I bought 2 arm guards from kustom king made by bearpaw, there like 10" long, and offer really good protection.  I bought them when my boys were 4 and 6.

They really twist around on the kids. I know with mine they did. Get the longest you can that doesn't crimp the elbow and maybe you have to cut and redo the straps if you can't get them short enough. If you have a lace model that's better.

Nothing will turn a kid off shooting more than getting his or her arm wacked by the string. That stings. That and bad criticism. Protect their arms and praise and award any progress they made. I took an old arrows, cut them down and retipped them, sprayed them with gold paint. Mounted them on a gold painted block of wood. Every shoot we did they got another gold arrow to put on their dresser. Nice way to get rid of broken arrows too.

I went to dicks and they had a real long material one with adjustable elastic straps for $10. I cut it in half and both my kids use them.
