bow unstrings whiile releasing
«
on:

I was shooting today and my bow would unstring itself after half a dozen shots or so. What am I doing wrong. I notice one of the strings loops is larger then the other. Is one end supposed to be on one specific tip of the bow? To say it is disconserting is putting it mildly. Thank you for reading.

The larger loop goes on the bottom. Did you check the string nicks for damage? Maybe a new string to see if it continues?

The larger loop goes on top.
Odds are you have a twisted limb if the string is coming off.

I agree with vermonster13, larger loop on top and it really does sound as if you have a twisted limb.

Or the tiller could be way off. Is this a new problem? What kind of bow is it?

String the bow and stand it against a wall. Step back and visually line up the string with the center of the bow (long axis).
If either tip is twisted you should see it quite easilly.

Doesn't matter if the large loop is on top or bottom - usually on top. Has nothing to do with unstringing the bow.
Another possibility is torquing the riser. I'd put my money on a twisted limb.

Thanks Gentlemen. When I get back to my house I will check the bow out. I more then likely twisted the limb stringing it.

Anthony,
The reason the big loop goes on top is that's the end most folks unstring and the loop is larger to allow it to slide down the wider section of the limb to remove tension. If you install it "upside down" you're likely also going to have excess served area well above your nock point. At any rate, as has been correctly pointed out, it's not why your bows coming unstrung. If it's not a twisted limb, I'd have to wonder if the grooves were cut properly.

twisted limb or poor nock grooves not cut properly...
Unless you make your own strings...big loop on top to ensure you have serving and such sufficient for nocking arrow near center of string. Also if longbow or selfbow and use push-pull stringing method you will want on top so you can slide it into grooves or out with this method. Also putting limb protector on bottom will require larger loop at top if you ever want to unstring it again. LOL

Nobody has even asked what kind of bow he's shooting. Recurve or longbow??? Arrows??? Brace hieght???
He could be shooting a recurve string on a long bow!! Not saying that he dosen't have a twisted limb just need to know a few more things.
