Shoot and they will come?
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:46:00 PM »
Read thread on here the other day a fello trad ganger who's son shoots compound. My son has always shot compound his entire archery life. I only went trad 2 years ago myself. Today I recieved new bow he was here. As I was setting it up to shoot he asked with no prompting if I had bow he could shoot. Which I did and we shot together. He did very well for just picking up a trad bow. I think he had a good time. Its a start.  :goldtooth:

My son got interested at age 7, interest lasted about 6 months. Now his is almost 23 and interest again crept up on him about a year ago.
I was in back yard shooting while he was working on his car. He walked over and asked if he could try a few shots. I agreed and handed him my longbow and an arrow.
He drew it about 15 inches and said "what the h*@#", the bow was 80#, I just laughed and said be right back.
Went in the house and strung up a 55# longbow. He's been shooting ever since!
Just called a few weeks ago to tell me he has hogs behind the house he just bought.   :)
Wants me to come down when I get a chance to help him build a feeder. Said he can get them in as close as 30 yards from the back patio!

Dean, that may have been my post about my son wanting a compound so he could shoot with me. Our schedules don't line up so we can shoot together, but he'll shoot before I get home and send a pic on the cell phone of his groups. I'll get home after he leaves for work and send pics of my groups. Next best thing. I'm really enjoying this.

I started my kids on those little bear fiberglass bows.My daughter Tannamarie(16) says she wants to keep shooting longbow. My son Garett(12)wanted a compound, after seeing his friends with them at a 3D shoot,so I got him one.To my way of thinking it's better to have him involved in archery ,no matter what kind of bow, than to lose him day in and day out to video games      :banghead: .My youngest son Whyatt(6)is happy with his little fiberglass bow BUT he sees his big brother with that cool looking bow and now he's talking about one.
Maybe someday my boys will want to pick up a longbow or recurve or maybe their oldman's shoulder will get so bad that I will have to shoot a compound instinctively but as long as were shooting together I can't see how that can be a bad thing
 PS
I hope the shoulder doesn't bum out and the boys go with the longbow          :archer2:
