hot-melt on carbons?

i got some new carbons in and want to put the 100 grain brass inserts in but i might have to remove the insert and cut the arrow shorter, now i have heard that i could heat up the insert and apply hotmelt and then heat up a field point put it into the arrow and the insert should come out without damaging the arrow.

 has anyone tried this or know of another way to remove inserts. without damageing the carbons

i want to fletch some so that is the only reason to cut the arrows from the insert end, i would just cut them from the nock end.

Yes I've used hot melt on my carbons. For short term tuning only. It don't stick well so you may lose a few inserts and points pulling them out of the back stop. Just don't get them to HOT!

Yes, it works like that.  Just remember to heat the metal as far from the carbon as practical so that you won't overheat the carbon.  Metal conducts heat well, so it won't take much heat to install or remove the insert.

Someone will come on here and blast me, they always do.  Hot melt is all i use in my carbons.  I have never lost a point in almost 2 yrs.  Best part, when i break a shaft i can always save my brass inserts.

I have always used hot melt and don't have problems with inserts pulling out. I do make sure the insert and inside of the shaft is clean.

I use hot melt with all of my carbons.I scuff the inside of the shaft & the insert horizontally with 150 grit sandpaper,then clean both with rubbing alcohol.I've had good results so far.I do cool the shaft with water right after putting in the insert. Leland

I've used hot melt (Ferr-L-Tite) exclusively on my carbon arrows since 2001. I've never once had a problem with inserts coming out.

Go ahead and glue them in. You can cut your arrows from the nock end. This method works out great for carbons. Good Luck.

I just started using carbons a couple of weeks ago. All I had on hand to glue the inserts in was hot melt. So far so good.

I used hot melt on 6 Gold tips, was stump shooting and i had 3 of the arrows break right behind the insert, i called gold tip and asked whats up?...they said DO NOT use hotmelt, the heat breaks down the resin that holds the carbon fibers together. I guess you can use it, jsut do not get it too hot.

I like to use Bohning Powerbond it heat reveseable.I have used use when I fist started shooting carbons the first couple did ok.But then I ruined a new Carbonwood using hot melt and I didn't even heat the shaft just the insert and it warped the shaft that was the last time doing that for me.I do mt tuning now with a little food wrap to hold the insert in when tuning,no mess and has been working for me.And no more damaged shafts.

I use cyanocrylic (super glue) for inserts.  Rich has it right, just cut the arrows from the nock end instead of the point end.

I tried a few other glues and lost inserts pretty consistently.  I haven't lost one in three months of heavy shooting with the super glue.
