Our original purpose was to attend our last 3-D shoot of the year which took place at Mountain Bowmen in Wausau, Wi. and plan for an upcoming North Dakota mulie/whitetail hunt for the middle of November after Whip finished a meeting of the WTA(Wisconsin Traditional Archer) at the clubhouse. Those meetings can last forever so Rafael(Greatbrownknockmedown) and I shot half the course and checked back to see how he was doing Meeting was over but where was Whip? Someone said he's around back selling stuff out of the back of his truck. I've heard about those kind of guys. Sure enough he was making a sale of one of the new packs, Eberlestock X2, that he's been talking about recently. Might as well eat lunch he'll be awhile. After lunch we did get to meet with Dan Brockman who donated the hunt at the Feb. WTA Banquet and got good info then all of us shot a round and had a great time. Something to be said about steadying the nerves while being heckled by the rest of the group which included tradgangers, Whip, suburbanirma, greatbrownknockmedown, as well as Bob Daigle and Jeff Frazer, pres and vp of WTA. After we finished we needed to think about heading back to my cabin a couple hours away so we didn't miss the beginning of the first preseason Packer game. Packers are kinda a religion in these parts don't ya know. Where did Joe go? Somebody said he's over negotiating with Kevin Termaat about new limbs for a bow. Yep there he is barely visible behind those RER;s.
Finally ready. Nope. Gotta review the Wyoming maps with Daigle and Frazer for the next Elk adventure in September;
I've got more time to kill I might as well look at that all wood bow from New Wood bows built by Chris Harwig from Merril, Wi. that I've been procrastinating for months about. Ipe backed with elm, shoots my heavy arrows so nice. Ok let's pull out the check book. How am I going to hide this from the wife, heh it's been a year since the last one and it's Whip's fault we should have left an hour ago.
We finally got on our way and pulled into the cabin with 15 min. to spare and the smell of a venison roast in the crock to greet us. Time to pour me brandy, dish up the food, sit back and watch the game while admiring the craftsmanship of a new bow all with good friends.
