Successfully darken a bow (Easily Removable)

So I decided on which bow I was going to use to hunt with this year, which is a Dwyer Dauntless all bamboo limbs with kingwood riser.  I got this bow a few months ago from a TG member on the classifieds.  The only issue at all with the bow is that it is really light colored and has a pretty glossy finish.  I really like shooting the bow but wasn't keen on the color and finish.  I had been trying to think of a way to darken the finish without having a permanant finish and just couldn't come up with one.  Then last week I was in my shop and came across a can of plasti-dip spray (black).  For those of you that don't know, it is used for coating of tools.  It leaves a rubbery type finish that is removable by peeling off.  I did a small sample area, just a light dusting, on the bow and let dry for a couple of minutes and checked it.  I was able to remove it with a few rubs from my hand.  Then I proceeded to lightly spray the front and back of the limbs, let dry, and wow, just what I was looking for.  Since these pics I have removed the finish, about 2 minutes, and resprayed again, a little more lightly.  I hope this can help some others that may be wanting a little darker finish.

Good idea.  I used face paint from a haloween kit last year.

But, spraying the limbs should add weight to the limbs affecting cast of the arrow. In other words, have you shot the bow with your tuned arrows and point weight with the "new look"?

I had a buddy do a whole bow in that stuff, and it really affected performance.  I would make sure not to use very much.

No change in the dynamics of the bow at all.  It shoots no different with or without the spray.   Once again only a very light coat, not a full coverage of the limbs.  If you look at the pics you can see the natural color show through the spray.  The new coat has even less on it.

Good idea. I have some Plasti-Dip at home and may do my Super Shrew for this season. It has a good grey color already but is shiny. This ought to do the trick.
