Turkey anyone?!?
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:11:00 PM »
Hunting season in VA starts at 02 October; therefore, I took a walk today to verify / check out my hunting stand locations before the opening.  Yup, fresh deep poop is a good sign, but it was also good to see a few turkeys too.  In short, today was a great day!

P.S.  I took these photos with my Droid cell phone.

Very cool! How close were you to those birds?
God, family, and bowhunting. Who says I'm not rich?

They were about 20 yards when I started taking photos.  I had the camera down (about waist high), and just kept pushing the button. (Yes, sound was off.)  Last photo is, of course, cropped.

We've had a flock of two dozen or more in our yard all summer. Here they are a number of weeks ago...they are much bigger now.

Depending on where they roost they come into the yard from several very predictable areas. A Double Bull is going up in the woods in back of our garden when we get back from next weeks Maine bear hunt. I can take a poke at one of them starting Sept. 15.

Looks good for you I too hope to get a crack at a turkey this year. Deer and turkey season overlap here. And in the fall either sex is a legal bird.

This is my first try at posting a video (although it is only about 6 seconds long).

well it worked.  I saw birds, and 6 seconds is just about all it takes for them to fly away from my arrows.  LOL

Hey Dave,
I hope these birds aren't to close to your house.  Your wife will ban you from hunting them, just like the deer around there!

If she makes you choose between marriage and turkey hunting, you'll sure miss her   :p
