Modifying a riser grip
«
on:

I am looking for someone to modify a take down riser grip. The factory profile is not working for me. I am not looking to spend too much, about $100.00. If not, how would a guy do it himself? Do you just get the wood rasp out and start making modifications? Need some gudiance.

The wood rasp is exactly right Rod. It is very unforgiving though, so if you decided to give it a go yourself take it slow.
I do grip modifications for customers quite a bit. It's a great way to personalize a bow to fit you better. One thing to consider of course it make sure it is a bow you intend to keep for the long haul. Modifying the grip might affect the resale value since a buyer may prefer the original grip.
If you would like me (or anyone else) to handle the project for you one thing you could do is to use the rasp for establishing the rough shape you would like and I could do the final sanding and refinishing. The link to my website is below.

I always put a tennis raquet wrap on the grip of bows to keep rings, ect. from scratching and gives a better grip. Also add a bit of leather in places to give a flatter , fatter grip when needed. Using 2 sided tape the wrap and leather are stable , and you can take it off and not hurt the quality of the bow. Hope this helps , Roy
