Any pics without velvet yet?
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:22:00 PM »
It's about that time of year.  A fellow from Kansas posted a pic. of a great buck completely out of velvet on aug. 28th over on the other site.  Anyone else get any yet?  I don't use trail cameras much.  I own 1 and it is in a very likely spot in the famed Pike County Illinois and has been for going on 3 weeks.  The anticipation is killing me.  Hoping to get a pic of a buck coming out of velvet.

A friend in WY saw two hard horned bucks last weekend, but no photo of them yet. Both appeared to be adult 4.5 year olds,

Anytime is right and I hope to have some picks this weekend of some.

For the last three years all the bucks we have been watching and taking picks of have shed in the first 10 days Of September.

I saw one last week and one this Monday that had shed.  I would guess they were both 2 1/2 year olds.  Does and fawns around the house haven't shed their summer coats yet though.  No pics though as I am too cheap to buy trail cameras.

I had my first hard horn buck pics last week. So far 3 total. Also, one that I have a picture of was working a mock scrape I made (he was the first to hit it).

Hunting season is almost here!

Blacktails around here still have velvet, atleast the few I have seen, but the elk are rubbing and I have seen several branch antlered bulls with full hard horns. A few spike bulls still have velvet as they tend to shed a bit later.

Maybe you guys are right and it's going to be a early fall, This guy is about 3 or 4 days early!!   ;)

But not this guy!! Same spot and cam

He is showing signs of drying up though.

See how dry it looks!! I sure look forward to seeing him after he sheds.

Been getting hard horns on the camera since Aug. 27th.  Usually it's a little later than that for me.
