Ever heard of these bows?

Found 2 older bows for sale.

1. Stone Point Archery Longbow. (looks handmade) Has a broken Compass in the handle.

2. American Archery Recurve.  Labeled Mark 1.

I've herd of American Archery but not the other. Don't know much about them though. Might try the history and collecting forum.

Charlie                                                                                                  I have an old archery sale cataloge advertising those  American Archery Bows...Tell me which one you got and I'll tell ya what it cost new back then...The late Dan Quillen was in posing with one of the bows back in his younger days...Cool magazine I picked up at an antique store a few years back...

Well Charlie I went and got the cataloge but no Mach 1 to be found...This magazine was dated 1959...It shows a Kit Kat,Cheetah,Griffin,The Flash,AMC,ACT,ACH...But no Mach 1 anywhere...Sorry Charlie...

I had a mark I in the collection very early on.. I bought it from Marv Clynck... Decent shoting bow with good grip and shot smooth... Limb lams were a bit different however, as there was no lam on the belly side of the riser...all being on the back side.. I passed it on at some point. Don't remember who, but possibly you have found it

My father found these bows at a Pawn shop. They have been there for a while and from the sounds of it they may stay there for some time more.

The Store is asking about $300. for each.  My father was just inquiring in case he found something very collectible.

   Never heard of Stone Point but American Archery was fairly common back in the day.  Here's a link w/ some history, bow pics, etc.

Pawn shops sometimes have good deals cause I got an old Browning Recurve for $30.00 about 5 years ago...I bet if your dad offered them $20.00 they would probally take it...If they don't sell it have some friends go in on seperate days and offer them even less...They might get the idea that they aren't worth the $300.00 that they are asking...Not a collecter bow like the Older Kodiaks, Wings and Black Widows of that time frame...They need to do some homework before they throw a price tag on it...I think they just sometimes look on e**Y and see bows going in that price range that are collecters like the 59 Kodiak and they think the bow they have is worth that so they hang a tag on it hoping they will hook someone on the bait...

I agree.  sometimes they go to auction sites and see the buy it now prices and think that is what the item is worth.  There is a guy locally who has an 71-72 Bear. He doesn't know anything about it except it is worth a $100.00 based on his research on Flea bay.  He didn't want to hear what year the bow was from, didn't know weather it was right or left handed and didn't notice the handle was glued back together or the scratches and dings all over, but It's worth $100.00.  He said "dont even try to low ball me because its a fair price and collectors are offering me 50.00 everyday".  I told him to take the collectors offer and said I wont be buying the bow.

I think my dad was just looking for a cheap bow to keep around in case someone needed one given to him but for a Pawn shop to come down $180.00 seems like a lot.
