The primitive cordage might be a bit rough for a bowstring, but I'm sure it'd do in a pinch.  The processed fibers can spun into string the same way that flax is and it apparently has a pretty high tensile strength for a plant fiber...

Are you asking about the material, or the device?

The material would probably work, for a little while anyway....but I don't see any reason to use it.

The device would work, if you wanted a finished string to look like that rope.  There's at least a couple of companies that have a machine that will make a "flemish" string.  I've only seen the work of one of them in person.  I'm sure it would work, but IMO it looked pretty awful, and no way it could live up to the hype on the package and on the website.  Dern things cost more than my hand-made ones to boot.  They did have very nice packaging though.....I'll give them that much.

LBR i was askin about the device itself, not to do ALL the work but get a good amount of the twisting done you know, I didn't know such a device was already made for bowstrings, and I'm sure it would be expensive since it is the only one, but this one looks like nice project to give a try, I'm still a novice at the string making area so you thank you for the input!

It's a nice idea, but I don't think it would work too well.  I haven't seen the machines that make strings, but as I understand it they are very expensive, and the work they do didn't impress me in the least.

There's quite a bit of twisting to a flemish string, but there's not that much that the device shown could do.  I figure you'd loose a lot more time than you gained with it, because you would constantly be swapping it around.

You have a few twists to make the base for the loop--take it off.  Marry the tag ends to the main bundles, twist those up--take it off.  Back-twist the two main bundles--take it off.  Add reverse twist--take it off.  Make the base for the second loop--take it off.  Marry those tag ends to the main bundles--take it off.  Twist up the "body" of the string.

Shoot--you can just about make the string in the time it takes to type it out without the device.  Might be fun to play with all the same though.
