I think I'm ready.....but still pounding the foam anyway!

This is how much my shooting has improved just since last year. I have never shot a broadhead from a recurve before now, and I have never shot woodies, much less built my own.
This year is all new to me and I'm having a blast.

I finally decided to try a broadhead today and it shot exactly like my field points as you can see from the pic. My finger is pointing to the arrow with the broadhead on it, and it's surrounded by a cluster of 3 more arrows, so I would say no further tuning required.......Just keep pounding away at the foam!!

BTW- I would have had a hard time even hitting this target from 10 yards away a year ago. A little patience, practice, and great advice from you all has really paid off in a huge way. I now feel confident to go out and take my first animal with completely traditional tackle.
Thanks to all those who helped me.

My finger is touching the end of the arrow with the broadhead on it. Granted it's only 10 yards away, but a huge improvement for me. My 20 yard shooting isn't too bad either and I can keep them all in the kill zone of my 3D buck...including the broadhead. I'll take that!

I also checked my trail camera today and I found a prime candidate to catch one of my cedar shafts tipped with a razor sharp broadhead from my recurve. I know, it's just a spike but I gotta start somewhere.......and this one needs to be culled from the herd anyway. I just hope he gives me a shot oppurtunity this year.

its a great sport man.  Reading your post made me remember my first trad deer.  It was only two years and I still get a flush feeling when i think about it.  There are very few things in life that have been that exciting and fulfilling for me.  I hope your experience is just as memorable.

Oh squeaky treestand, how I hate thee!

Thanks guys.
If I put a deer down...any deer...with traditional tackle it will be such a sweet accomplishment for all my hard work and practice. It will feel like my very first one when I was 13 all over again.
Even though I've killed a truckload of deer with a wheel bow, I've never seriously persued traditional equipment, I hope this year will be my first cause I'm already hooked!

Do you have the same 4 point rule we have in Boone county?

If so you might want to pick a different target.

Good shooting!

If you can over come the nerves at the moment of truth you'll be eating back strap!

We're rooting for you!

No, not down here yet. I like the 4pt. rule, but it kinda takes away your ability to cull big spikes and big bodied scum bags from the herd. Down here there aren't as many deer in most places so they haven't implemented the 4pt. rule yet.

What is a big bodied scum bag?       You don't need any excuses to shoot whatever deer you want with whatever gear you are using.  Nice grouping - looks like you are going to hit whatever you are shooting at.  Good hunting.

BTW- These deer are literally in my back yard. My garage is straight up the hill on the mowed path and right on the other side of those cedar trees. I'd guess about 150yards tops. I've got a treestand straight behind the camera about 20 yards away. It's facing my clover food plot, that's what the deer are eating on.
*the picture isn't fuzzy, it's foggy because it just got done raining this particular day*
