Cold Weather Bow Noise

I have seen many posts on bow noise and how to stop it. I live in the cold northeast and some of the fixes that work in warm weather actually cause more noise in cold or below freezing conditions.
Case in point, I use brush buttons in warm weather  and they work great for their intended use. However, when it gets below freezing those nice soft buttons get hard. When I shoot, they smack agaist my limbs like drum sticks. My nice quiet warm weather bow sounded like a 22 rifle at 20 degrees.
Now my intention isn't to pick on Brush Buttons, I think they are a very good product. However,I foregot an important consideration when working on my bow. I hunt in changing conditions so what works in July may work against you in November.

On my bows about the only thing I'll add to the string is a piece of yarn if I can't tune most the noise out. I'm not much of a fan for things on my strings if they aren't really needed and most stuff out there really isn't. I haven't used brush buttons on one for close to forever as they didn't seem to work as well as I hoped they would. I just got more careful when travelling through the jungle. Yep cold weather can do strange things and if its rubber it becomes a rock. I found that my bows tend to be noiser when its chilly but then so do my creaky old bones. Anyway my bows are set up the same for warm weather as well as cold. I've found that its the none bow items such as heavier clothes and bulky gloves that can become more of an issue when moving between 20 below or 40 above.

Our bears run a tad smaller down here. I don't know if I wouldn't want to make just a little more noise in your neck of the woods.
A bow hunter stumbling into a surprised Brown would make for a memorable hunt. I think I'd bet on the bear if he really wanted to make an issue about you trespassing on his turf with that little pointed stick. When we lowlanders hunt in your woods we spend more time looking out for the bears than hunting. Makes it more interesting.

Don't get me wrong but I don't want any noise off my bow. Good tuning and heavy arrows does alot of quieting and the piece of yarn usually completes the deal if necessary. The nice thing when it is cold the bears usually have gone to bed. Yep try stumbing on a grizzly that was laying on kill at 15 yards. That was sure fun. lucky for me that he warned me off and I decided not to argue. A loud growl can sure humble a guy. I was out bear scouting yesterday and did not find any fresh sign in an area that holds lots of bears, both black & grizz. Lots of moose sign though. Maybe next week I'll find them.
