I have been making and using exactly the same thing for 20 years.  They break after awhile and you replace them with a new one at pennies.  They are always in action (except when wet of course) and the best part is that you don't have to move to do something to see how the wind direction is.  I have them on all my bows and feel naked and unequiped without one.

I attach mine to the back of the bow with a small piece of bees wax. It works well.
