possibly a stupid question involving KME honing oil bottle
« on: September 11, 2010, 03:26:00 PM »
Ok I just got my KME knife sharpener in the mail and I was tying to get the red thing inside the bottle off and after trying for a while I couldnt get it so i was wondering if it is supposed to be removed or do you just poke a hole in it. If it is supposed to be removed do you have any tricks.

Tyler,

Yes, you need to remove the red inner cap. Just use a screwdriver to pry it out. Save it though, you'll want to put it back in so that the oil doesn't leak out inside the case. It will be much easier to remove/put back after it's been in and out a couple of times. Thanks,

Ron

Forgetaboutit...use your wife's mazola oil instead! Keep it for firestarter emergencies and such!

Oh, what the h----...Ron already answered the real question!  :)

I am with Doc Nock, using veggie oil now. The only thing that smells worse than the honing oil is the old thread cutting oil with high sulfur content I was subjected to in my machining days.

It does have a unique smell.
We use it in the sawmill a lot.
