predator recurve bows
« on: September 12, 2010, 07:42:00 PM »
I've been looking to buy a bow as a back up to my black widow pma takedown.  I've been looking at a predator, anyone have any comments on the predator or any other?

They are great bows. I had a 58" that I purchased in 2009. Unfortunately I sold it. They are great shooting bows and reasonably priced!

I had one of the older ones but ended up trading it and it was a good stable hard shooting bow.

I have 2 preditors. One of them is my backup bow. They both shoot like they have eyes. If I see a deer, I hope my bow sees it.

If you shoot your Widow really well you may not like the way a predator shoots or feels in your hand. My hand likes the fit of predators better so I shoot one much better(they seem to be a tad thicker and a bit higher wristed). I have tried two different widows and they just didnt point/shoot as well for me (havent tried an Asbell grip yet). OR...as said above the predator may become your number one.....If you want a true backup, you may want to get another widow.
Bowhunting is "KILL and EAT" not "Catch and Release".....Semper Fi!

Awesome bow but grip is somewhat fat and it's a high wristed one too.  Very rigid and thus fast.  Those limbs store alot of energy.

Do not buy the anniversary with the carbon.
They are FAST and much harder hitting.

The above statements are true. I sold my Schafers after shooting the PREDATORS.

Good luck on your search.

Just had one arrive at my house today.  Very fast, and I can't emphasize how smooth the draw is, I draw to 30.5 inches and does'nt stack a bit.  The bow is 54# at 28" and it feels like I'm drawing a 45# bow it's such an easy pull.

A very rugged bow, and it whips an arrow.  I've found with my rest/shelf it likes a larger diameter arrow (I prefer shooting 9/32 MFX, but they shoot right).  If I build the shelf out it will be fine, but with a basic rest/shelf they seem to like the average wood/aluminum arrow.

The only downside is the weight (on the heavy side), and it demands good form and will show you when things are off. (Which is a good thing in the long run, forces you to work on form.

All in all a huge thumbs up, I'm very pleased.

Predators are dead in the hand and fast.

They like heavy arrows best, and tend to prefer arrows spined a bit high.

Mine is 60" and I draw it to 29 1/2".

Used ones don`t stay for sale very long.

You can get them all fancy or bare bones.

Ron and Mike are top of the line...they will help you any way they can.

You can`t go wrong with a Predator, as a back up, or go to.

60 arrows @ 20 yards with my Predator a few years back. Althought I've been a longbow guy for the last couple of year you can't beat a Predator. Nuff said

I use xx75 2219 arrows with both of my preditors. The bows are 55# and 57# @ 28". With the beaver balls on the string, they're very quiet. The heavy arrow seems to help that.

kill shot, I can hit it as long as it doesn't have fur, feathers or hair on it. But I do get lucky once in a while  :goldtooth:

Yes, but 60 times in a row aint luck. Even if some of it was luck, it was not all luck because you tried to do it.

I have a bunch of recurves, different brands mostly. I own two predators and bought my son one for his 31st b-day -- it is his only "trad" bow. I really like my Anniversary. It is remarkably smooth -- feels at least 5 pounds lighter than identically weighted bows -- I've checked it on digital scales to make sure it is marked correctly!

I can't say it is my absolute favorite at this time (I like a different feeling, more technical grip) but I wish my favorite was as smooth as the Predator.
