Recurve or Longbow

Would like to know what you guys prefer and why?

Which one is more forgiving? Which one is easier to shoot on average? Etc... Thanks

recurves are more forgiving because the limbs are thicker and correct quicker if theres a string pluck., I shoot a recurve. Its just what I've started with so I shoot that.

For ME I have shot either or equally as well but I do prefer a longbow. I do find my longbow more forgiving.

I have shot them both, recurves are a bit faster, I think they are a bit noiser also. I prefer a longbow I have two of them. I think the recurve is more forgiving though.

I just recently started shooting recurves.  My interest in recurves started when I decided to try shooting lighter #'s.  I wanted as much speed in a lighter # bow as I could get and still have stability.  I've got a feeling I'll shoot both curves and longbows from now on.  I like them both and you can get a little more speed from recurve at lower #'s.  I can't tell that one is more forgiving than the other.  Bad release = bad shot with either for me.

I have been shooting recurve for many years. The other day I was shooting a friends Mahatango long bow.... I want one and don't want to go back to recurve.

If I had to teach someone to shoot from the ground up I would have to start them with a recurve, why? I think because of the mass involved they are more stable in your bow hand, most being cut past center are a little more forging on arrow spine etc, You may ask what I shoot now, I shoot a longbow, and with the proper arrow they make a great hunting tool, light,quiet, and frankly I haven,t noticed a drop in performance. I feel you can may more mistakes in a hunting situation and the longbow will forgive you. If you focus hard I belive you could shoot a longbow hanging upside down,from your belly, lying on your back etc. targets the recurve wins, hunting the longbow wins depends what you do I guess

Not to yank my own chain but i can shoot both effectively, but for size and manuverability recurve is what i use. Jonesy

Thanks fellows... I did go by the Navajo Longbow company yesterday and shot some of Roy's bows. Great shooters for sure. I went ahead and ordered one because I liked it so much. I may get a recurve also, my friend has a blackwidow and I like shooting it also....

A recurve draws easier. I had a sore shoulder when I was shooting a longbow. Switched to a recurve same poundage and no problems! There is less shock when releasing an arrow with a recurve. That might be why.

I have shot recurves for years and have taken plenty of game with them. I think recurves have their advantages like speed and their smaller size makes them easier to maneuver in the thick stuff. I prefer to shoot longbow though. Personally I have not found them to be noticably harder to get around the woods with and for me they seem much more forgiving. All my recurves have had a high wrist grip,which I liked at the time, but cannot stand anymore. My longbows have a more simple Howard Hill style grip which,     for me  seems much more natural. I will most likely never shoot my recurves again.   IMHO I think a well tuned longbow is a much more forgiving shooter.

I prefer recurves...even with the same AMO length, they are shorter, have more ergo grips, tend to be more forgiving, and have higher mass weights...

Pastor you did right by ordering a Roy Hall bow. He does make some beautys that shoot like the dickens!I myself have shot Recurves then recurves and hybrids now just hybrids. My personal opinion is that there are hybrids out there that are as fast as a recurve, much quieter,[no string  slap on the recurve limbs],and more forgiving to me.I shoot my hybrids more accurately than I ever did my recurves.

66 or 64 inch longbow ...with a Locator style grip!!!! having said that the Bushwacker made by Mike & Jason in 60 inch looks mighty sweet longbow limbs kind of recurve grip in 60 inches would be great for shooting in double bull blind.Good Luck
