New to me Ferguson Patriot by Bear

I almost forgot when I made my post about the dry that I saw today. I got a new bow the Byron Ferguson Patriot by Bear. The bow is beautiful, 64" 60#@28" shoots very smooth. Someone must have bought a compound today because the chrono was out and setup and I couldn't resist. So I must have shot 30 arrows through her, first few were about 175-178fps I shoot a 540gr arrow and thought not to bad. I kept shooting and I guess I warmed up or got in a groove and I'm seeing 188, 189, 191, and had one at 195. Now I'm shocked so the guy who had the dry fire said try one with my arrow his arrow was only 465 gr and 203fps. We both shoot 5575 GT my arrow is 1/2" longer and I have weight behind insert and shoot 175gr point he shoots 125gr point no weight behind insert.


  I was able to end up with a 189.9 fps avg. not bad for a 540gr arrow. I never check my bows but couldn't resist. How is this for a bow at this weight. I pull a full 28 on a few I know I drew further or had a better release because I went over 192 fps.

I knew she was fast, but I didn't know she had that kind of speed. If I weren't so danged wimpy     I would have kept that one around .

Many people who shoot through a chronograph will draw their bow farther back in order to gain speed. But, you should draw it back the same as you would when shooting targets/hunting in order to get an accurate, true reading.

I suspect you were overdrawing your bow on the higher speeds. Still, the lower speeds you got weren't bad at all.

i had a patriot and it was a FAST bow.  this is why they dont pop up on the classifieds too often.  they are the most UNDER-RATED production or custom bow out there.  wish i would have kept mine:( if anyone has a 70#er please let me know!

I had 2 of them, a 50# and a 60#.  I got screwed out of the 60# in a trade that went bad.  They are fine bows as far as I'm concerned.  Real good shooters, and very underated.  I've read where people said they had hand shock, neither of mine did.  I never could shoot like Byron though.

I'll second that.  I've had one about 5 years but I haven't made the mistake of letting it go.  The Patriot is head and shoulders over the Montana and highly overlooked.

I nearly bit on that 60 pounder myself!
