Interesting ???
« on: September 16, 2010, 09:40:00 AM »
Ok I'll leave of the names of the bows to keep this thread bash free....I hope.

I have two bows, one is a D style longbow, 62" 75@28
The next is a recurve, 56" 72@28

My draw length is 26"

I can draw the longbow easily to anchor and shoot a full session with it. The recurve, I have to modify my form to draw it back. I've checked both bows on a scale and they do match what they are rated for. The question is why can I draw the longbow but the recurve feels like ten pounds heavier. Does the length of the bow make that much of a difference, does the style of the bow make that much of a difference. And for money sake, the longbow cost me half as much.

How smooth is the draw??
Does the recurve pull more weight right from the start?

The draw on the longbow is smooth to anchor, while the recurve feels like I'm trying to tear something apart.

That is why I shoot longbows and at 6'4" tall a 68 inch R/D longbow.  No stack and a smooth draw to anchor.  Very forgiving. etc......

The shorter the bow the harder is can be to draw and design has a huge amount to do with how the bow draws for you.

From all the bows I've shot, the longer length bows draw smoother and the poundage feels less if two bows are of the same poundage, but one is longer than the other.

I have a 56' recurve a 62" recurve and a 66" longbow all 50@28(all by different bowyers) and the 56" and 66" both seem heavier than the 62".  I was curious about this and asked a few people and I was told that it had to do with the tapers on the laminations in the limbs and the way they were built.

I have no idea if this is true, but that was what I was told.  I'm sure that there are some on here who will know the answer to this.

Simple physics. If all is equal, when you bend a shorter limb to get the same energy as a longer limb it will have to work harder.

Your getting more finger pinch also which makes it FEEL like its heavier due to the comfort level dropping    I dont go below 62 inches  and I draw 26" just like you
