Good looking duo, no?!   :)   Actually, the real reason that bear is facing forward (and I'm wearing a hat) is not her size (third of the 6 we took) but that we both turned out to be a little “folliclelly challenged”.   :biglaugh:    Yeah, she’d been rubbing some fur off I discovered. I was hoping to locate a “hair/(bear)? club for bears” to add some hair to her for a rug but it appeared she was better suited to make a nice head on my wall instead.   :)

She was taken last summer in Quebec on a great trip with some even greater guys, Tradgangers Tippit and IMDiablo among them. I truly didn’t expect to see much on this particular night as, after dropping 2 of the other guys off and finally arriving at my area, I realized I had forgotten my pack! I made a mad dash back to camp but by the time I got back there wasn’t much daylight left. While I was still cursing however, in slipped this nice sow which I first spotted alongside me less than 10 yards away! It still amazes me how quietly they come in-I can’t take two steps in the woods without making some kind of racket! Anyway, it kept getting later and I was beginning to worry it’d be dark before I'd get a shot. I waited the longest time for this bear to FINALLY move its left shoulder forward on a slight quartering away shot. As Doc’s autopsy would later reveal, I caught the back part of one lung and the front part of the other as I intended. The bear still went about 30 yards downhill though and crashed in some brush and let out the LOUDEST, cacophonous, death moan!! After that I waited, oh, five seconds and went after it. I confess that I was so buzzed from the adrenalin that I was nearly wobbling through the woods to get it!   :biglaugh:   The bear was taken with a Border Black Douglas Swift, 61#@28.

A lot of camaraderie and good feeling on this trip! I understand that fellow Tradgangers JC & Bob Walker will be joining us this year and from what I’ve heard and read they’re a hoot and I am looking forward to hunting with them! 11 guys are going- all trad!

Thanks to Rob at Trad Gang for making me the “banner boy”-it’s actually a bit of a kick!  Thanks Allen (Sheldon) for setting up and taking the picture! And thanks again Doc for teaching me to skin a bear-I look forward to hunting with you again soon!
