Ascertain your effective range when considering the life of an animal. That effective range changes with virtually every situation- the animals behavior, the terrain, your own adrenaline and on and on. Your effective range on a particular shot may only be 25% of what you have competantly master out of the field. Sticking to your limits and passing shots that are marginally outside of your effective range will leave little disappointment and possibly much reward. Great hunters are successful by setting up and taking shots within there effective range.

I would ask myself if I can clean kill at 30 yards, shot from a machine most equipment will do the job. it's the human factor that messes stuff up.
Proverbs 12:27
The lazy do not roast any game,
but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.
