Grant,
The hat was acquired in a trade for a neck knife at the last ATAR held at Winterplace Ski Resort. It supposed to be coyote, but I've not seen one that red. Looks more like oversized Russian pomeranian to me. I'd had a nice gray coyote hat that I let a hunting buddy talked me out of as part of a gun trade. It was a moment of weakness, but he has no hair and I caved so his head wouldn't get frostbit! This was its replacement. Whatever the fur, I will confess that there are only about three days out of every year here in NC that it gets cold enough to wear it without sweating. When it's single digits outside it feels great! There are several "googleable" furrier websites where you can get these hats, as well as genuine fox, lynx, and beaver 'headdresses', but be prepared to "slap leather". It's better to get your own pelt and have it converted.
