ILF Risers
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:22:00 PM »
I'm just starting to learn about ILF technology and am wondering why all the different lengths of ILF risers and which way poundage goes with different lengths. Question: Given the same limbs and the same draw length does the poundage go up or down with shorter limbs starting with lets say 19" riser and going down? Thank You Frank

I could be wrong but I don't think shorter riser means more weight necessarily. I think you should look at the limb pocket angles to determine this. I would call the dealer and ask specifically before you buy to make sure.  I can't see anyone getting upset by answering this question if you called.

OK I'm learning!! If the limb pockets were equal would a shorter riser increase the weight of the bow? Frank

Yep Frank most ILF limbs are marked for a 25" riser. If the limb angles are the same you add a pound per inch.Example limbs marked 40# on a 25" riser should be 46# on a 19" riser. It gets a little trickier when you start dealing with custom bowyers hunting riser's.Morrison changes his limb angle from riser length to riser length to make all his risers plus ten pounds. So the same set of 40 pound on 25" riser limbs will be 50# on any length Morrison riser. And Dryads riser is plus 12#.The weight change stays the same whatever the limb length is.I hope i helped you more than i confused you. Thanks,Jim

Keep in mind that with ILF you also have different limb lengths as well. I personally prefer long limbs with shorter risers.

Never sell a widow.I've never sold one i didnt regret.LOL No one of the nice things about ILF is it's cheap.I mean you can buy a $1400 custom.Or you can get a very good bow for around $200.Depending on your taste. My favorite all time bow is a Bear76er i warfed a couple months ago. It's got a set of $120 greatree limbs on it.Total cost with riser ,limbs and adapter parts maybe $210.And this bow shoots great. Thanks,Jim
