Narrow Limb Recurve?
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:18:00 PM »
Does anyone know who builds a 1pc/3pc recurve with narrow limbs? I am looking for something that will handle my 29" draw and be short enough to handle the thick Oregon coast brush. I am predominately a longbow guy but, thick brush make maneuverability an issue and I was wondering if there is a recurve with narrow limbs that will fit the bill.

Websites and contact info greatly appreciated!   :D

I'm not trying to be obtuse here, but I truly don't see that an extra quarter inch or even half of an inch in limb width is going to make a bow less maneuverable in brush.  My MAII BW is 64" long and at its wides point, the limbs are 1 3/4" at end of riser and taper down to 3/4" at the nock tips.   Never had a problem in brush with it, not even with a bow quiver.

However, I'd guess you would like a bow like the Shrew or Griffin or one of those with small risers---their limbs look narrower to me, but it may be an optical illusion.

I want the recurve(just to have one)for maneuverability and the narrower limbs to appease my longbow tastes. Sorry, should have worded it better.    :)

I build a 58 in recurve that will handle your draw length and has narrow limbs. I also build a 56 in onepiece rexurve that will do it. God Bless you and good hunting. Steve

Mike Steliga's "Bruin" Huntmaster recurves have narrow limbs and are really nice shooters.

I am also a 29" draw. I have a 60" Saxon Hawk. The Hawk has a thin limb design and is quite a performer. Randy's attention to detail is second to none.

Hey TW how short are you wanting? our 56" or 58" will do the job.  Ask Arwin about the 56" he fell in love with that bow
This is of a picture of me drawing the56" as far as my arms would allow and I still had some more room if my arms were longer    :biglaugh:

I forgot to mention that I have a 29" draw and my 2 Mojostiks are 56".Also,there are quite a few makers that make shorter long bows now that handle fairly long draws.Shrews and the Big Jim Thunderchild come to mind but I know there are more.Look through the sponsor's list.

The picture is the 56" Mojostik,53#.These bows are fast, quiet, stable and don't break the bank.

I just started making these, they're narrow and 60" long.  It's pretty much a longbow with recurve limbs.

Ok, I know about the BW PSR and the Fox Breed but, was looking for something along those lines and not break my pocket book.

Mike, that is an excellent looking bow! You definitely have my curiosity peaked. Would love to see some more photos of it in your hand. Are you done tweaking it, or are you still playing around with the design?

Dave, how narrow are the limbs on your recurves? A 58" bow would do the trick and that photo you posted looks like it can surely handle the draw.

The Great Northern Ghost has a pretty narrow limb.  It handles a lot like a longbow, too.

TW Here's the widest part of the limbs at the fades

The ruler is sort of misleading, the widest part is around  1 7/16" wide

The tips

The grip

Again

It's pretty narrow for a recurve

That's ok, I like narrow. I have a pretty small hand for someone of my height. Please PM me on wood choices for the riser and what your limb core is. That bow looks like it might fit the bill for me.

i secondwhat batman said about the aneewakee addiction. i measured the limb width=1 1/4". very smooth shootin bow and well behaved for a 56" recurve. very light mass wight and the smaller grip fits my hand doesnt feel bulky at all. its really quiet and has great pointability. you would also think that something this light would have alot of handshock, but it doesnt. give john dill a call you wont be dissappointed. ruddy
