The first "hunt"
« on: September 27, 2010, 08:56:00 AM »
My oldest son Chase, has been begging me to go hunting for the last month. He'll be four in October, and has been shooting his bow for about a year...the past few months he has shot on his own (with no help from me). Now he's helped me set up stands, build blinds and even trap but I haven't pushed him on bowhunting or shooting his bow. I've let him decide if he likes it and how much he does.

Our fall turkey season is open, so i purchased a blind threw it up and decided it was time for Chase to hunt!

I let him pick his "camo" just told him it had to be dark colors. He wanted to take his bow and arrows..the only problem in his mind was HE doesn't have a quiver. A few minutes in his room and he came running out with his Snoopy golf club holder slung over his back like a back quiver! We had dinner, loaded up and headed for the blind...our youth deer season is open and they were picking corn all around, so I figured we wouldn't see any turkeys but we gave it a try.

The start of our journey leaving the truck

Almost to the blind, whoa is the truck a long ways away!

Quote from Chase "walking in this corn is tough when your small and carrying your bow"

He set up the decoys, and wanted them facing the blind so the turkeys knew which way to go

He kept quiet and watched the whole time, no toys or snacks, even helped call!

We made it a hour and a half in the blind till he had enough. No turkeys but we did see a squirrel, and lots of birds. Every noise his eyes got as big as a plate, and he'd whisper "turkey, Dad?"

Headed home..we got busted by a doe headed to the truck, so he got to see his first up close white tail putting distance between us!

I do believe a new bow, arrows and quiver are needed for my new hunter!  It had to be one of the greatest hunts i've ever had.
Just a Coyote Soul out wandering...

I love it.  Take him again.

My boys first turkey hunt only lasted about 20 minutes.  He got cold and we went home.  Awsome trip.

Haha, that last picture is priceless. He will love that photo when he's an older accomplished hunter.
