How to build FOC Carbons for high poundage?
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:32:00 AM »
Hi,

Im waiting now for a 60#@28" bow.
With my 30" draw i need 31" arrows.
I like CX Heritages, but even with the 350s i wouldnt be able to put much weight in the tip end.
Id like a 100gr. insert and 125 tip.
Is there a heavier spined durable Carbon shaft youd recommend?
Or do i have to start footing my arrows? BTW, when you foot youre arrows, do you glue the insert in the inner or outer shaft?

Thanks, Axel

i shoot a 60 pound black widow pma with the  cx heritages 350s with 250 up front and they shoot fine 640 grains.i also shoot 2219s with 250 up front and shoot like bulletts 720 grains.also have some epics in the 340s that are full length minus 3/8s of an inch with 150 that shoot great.just play with a few shafts till you find what works good.....

Axel- The gold tip 7595's are a bit stiffer than the 350's. You should have no trouble shooting more weight up front than the 225g you are wanting.

I shoot my 7595's with a 30+" draw cut at 30.75" with 400g up front out of my mid 80# bows. The CX's are a little too weak for this set up, but I believe they would work in the mid 70# range.

Then there are the GT big game 100# plus. They are spined at 280. I use them on my heavier bows only cutting them down to increase the spine for the speed of the bow, not for a specific length. I usually have about 350 to 400 up front on those but could have more.
Some will depend on how thick the riser is and whether the bow is cut to center (or almost) or cut past center. I see slight differences here in some of my long bows.
I also have GT 7595s but I have noticed that some of the camo 7595s and the wood grain are spined at 300, the rest of them are 340s. This can throw you a real curve to say the least. Big Jim: do you still see this with the newest GTs? I have camo 7595s that are 300s and I have some that are definitely 340s.
Bemans also makes a great arrow in these classes of spine. Really tough.

Artifaker1- The big game 100's are actualy a .250 spine. Also the woodgrains are .300's and I personally have never seen them vary. The camo 7595's are supposed to be a .340. I don't shoot them or stock them so I can't tell you if they have ever varried. Axel's bow will be cut to center. It will also shoot fast. But anything stiffer than the .300's will be too stiff!
He will be shooting about 65-66lbs at his draw. Also Axel, I would consider shooting a little more tip weight. With only 225g up front, you will have a total arrow weight of aprox 565g = 8.5 g per pound. certainly heavy enough to satisfy warranty, but that bow will sling a much heavier arrow with great authority. Will probably have to leave the shaft full length with the lesser tip weight too.

Yes the new big games are 250 Jim, but the older American ones are 280, I just pulled up an older chart. On some of these older charts you will see some of the camo 7595s listed as 300s, and they are there not kidding. But most of the 7595s made are 340s, unless they are wood grain traditional of course. (you can usually tell them apart by weighing them, or just bending them by hand if you have both types)
About a year ago I bought a dozen GT expedition hunter 7595 camos, six had the old gold writing on the arrow finish and six had the first wrap style label. Long story shorter the wrap style label arrows are 300s and the gold writing ones are clearly 340s. I also have some Pro Hunters 7595s that are 300s.
I mention this not to hi-jack a thread but to help clarify the actual spine of this particular brand and size of arrow. Even now they for some reason have the trad 7595 at 300 and the rest of the 7595s at 340. Maybe it is due to the type of coating that they used at that particular time or something like that. I like them as long as they have a flag on them.
