Widest and/or Largest Dia. Broadheads
« on: September 30, 2010, 01:15:00 PM »
The Centaur ‘Battle Axe’ BH @ 2 1/8” width and the Big Jim ‘ Big-3’ BH @ 1 ½” dia. are the widest two and three blade BH’s I have found. Are there any wider and/or larger diameter two and three blade BH’s available?

There's the Magnus Bullhead 3-blade at either 3" or 4", but that's a turkey head and probably not what you're asking.

I don't know their specs., but Simmons make some pretty wide heads, can't remember if the Land Shark or Tree Shark is the wider one. Kinda resemble the Battle Axe to be honest.

crgaston - my quest is stimualated by always wanting an edge on turkeys. They are my passion and also my nemisis. I was not considering a head chopper. Thanks for the suggestion

Dusty Nethery- The Simmons Tree Shark two blade is 2" wide and the Large Snuffer three blade is 1 15/32" wide. Thank you for your suggestion.

These two were the 2nd widest and/or largest diameter that I had found.

Let the search continue.

simmons makes a 2" glue on or screw on.

Are you looking for glue on or screw on?

Would prefer a screw-in and attempting to locate the widest and/or largest diameter BH's available.

Friend, you could do like many of the old timers and modify one of those by adding a couple of injector blades silver soldered at a angle on the trailing edge.

The BigJim Broadheads are machined from one solid piece of steel. The spin and fly true. Onlyl problem is they leave a mess behind them.  :goldtooth:

So far my search has not gotten me far. The Centaur ‘Battle Axe’ BH @ 2 1/8” width 2 blade and the Big Jim ‘ Big-3’ 3 blade @ 1 ½” dia. are still the widest two and three blade BH’s I have found.

Please let me know if you are aware of any larger diameter and/or wider BH's available.

Scott have you ever had a Centaur Battle Axe in your hand? They are huge, fly true and if big is what you are after I am not sure that you need to look any further. Even with a head as big as this I would still hook it up with a string tracker. If "nemisis" means not recovering a bird than I would place string tracker as first priority and then head. Just my opinion but you might try. tom

That Centaur head sure looks like A Simmons to me!  I have heard that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery LOL.  A formidable head to be sure.

I would think it would work well with a heavy poundage bow and a heavy shaft---great for something in the Moose ategory here in the states.

There are many great heads out there and even the weakest designs will harvest a turkey. I have been turkey hunting exclusively with the large snuffers these past few years and really like them. I am no hunting expert nor a great shot, however I do live and breath turkey hunting and trad archery. Past experience has taught me that immobilization is the key to a consistant recovery. Losing one bird is not acceptable, yet always possible. Larger heads may be poor choices for larger game, however may be a great choice for turkeys. Since, I am not that successful on hitting the dixie cup immobilization target area, I am inclined to pursue a larger dia and/or wider BH than I have seen to date.

Thank you for your comments and please keep any new information coming.
