Old Bear cub bow, need info
« on: October 01, 2010, 03:46:00 PM »
I have an early Bear cub bow (took pic of bear decal because some can judge year by that) is this a longbow or a recurve ?I know newer cubs are recurves, I don't have a string for it and need to know the length to get ? Bow specs are:
49# pounds

C - 10902 (serial # ?)

Arrow shelf is a wood chip than can slide in leather handle to be a right or left hand bow

63 1/4 inches from tip to tip

All info is appreciated, now to get back out to the woods hunting !
Thanks Dan.

Hi Dan,

I have a Cub like yours that is 35#.  It is a reflexed longbow.  It measures the same as yours tip to tip (it is marked 62"), and the string I made for it is 58".  Gives it a 7" brace height, give or take.

As far as the year, I was told the mid-1950s, but I really don't know the exact year.  You might post over on the Trad History/Collecting forum and get more answers.

Any deer yet?  I have relatives in the thumb, and have a hankering to get back there next year to hunt whitetail again.

Thanks for the info Ron !
Today was the opener and I didn't have any come in within 100 yards, I was in the woods watching them in the field.

That bow is a 1952 based on the riser shape and glass color.
Great looking deer mounts on the wall by the way.
