Help finding a hat?
« on: October 04, 2010, 11:51:00 AM »
I am looking for a hat but don't know what it is called.  It is like the one Hawkeye wore in the original MASH movie.  He wears it flopped down, but I think you could bend it up in the rear and still have a brim to block out the sunlight.  So what is the name of it and where can I get one?  Here is a link to a picture from MASH.

Looks like a crusher hat to me.  I guess they are called bucket hats now.

Actually, it looks like Donald Sutherland is wearing a "Jones-style" hat.  You might try doing a google search, I think there have been guys looking for those in the past....some of Ron LaClair's old photos show the Jones-style....

Yep, Jones style hat. My Dad has several of them. Some with ear flaps up under the hat band. The back is usually worn flipped up (I have never seen Dad flip his down like in the picture).

I seem to recall a few pictures of Fred Bear wearing this type of hat as well.

I did a short Google search and found 4 or 5 places that sell them. Dad's are the original Herter's Brand (before they went "cheap")and are at least 40 years old. He wears them hunting every year.

I would say that it is a Jones style with the back folded down. I remember a friend of my older brother wore a hat like that back in the day and it was a Jones style.

Cabelas still carry a Jones style hat, the brim can be up or down in the back...I have one.
