Comes down to this...my mom's first words to me when I brought home my first deer (a 170# dressed basket 5pt)

"Why did you shoot one with horns? The other ones taste better."

Momma knows best.

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

Not picky, makes good sense, and it is still hunting.

I hunt small tracks of land around housing developments. I have a doe on my place that I call spastic, because 1 scant molecule of human scent and she well, goes SPASTIC . We have been trying to take her out of the gene pool for 3 years and cannot make it happen . A real trophy IMO! Plus they sometimes come close enough  :)

Why only shoot "a" doe when I've got unlimited doe tags?

If it were true that does were smarter here in Kansas, I would have taken several bucks over 180 inches.  If I had unlimited tags I would take several old mature does every year.  The ones with the sway back and pot belly.  The ones we leave alone so that when grandpa comes, it eases his mind and once in a while he screws up. Instead I only get to take 5 does and most of them have been short on teeth!  It is still too bad that more people do not harvest does here though cause the few of us that do can not keep up with the ones who WONT.

IMO Michigan should adopt the policy of hunters must take a doe first before being allowed to draw a buck tag.....Something like Ohio would be nice.

In Ohio, you can take many does (how many depends on where you can hunt) but you don't need to take one before you take a buck.

I don't know if I want my ability to take a buck taken away from me. I agree with you tho. I looked over the responses and only a few were from Michigan, where we now have unlimited doe tags, so to speak. You can buy no more than 5 doe tags a day.

5 tags a day. Most of Michigan's freezer's should be full by December!

But not before the rut....

Cause I can get tags to shoot 3 does for the same price as shooting one buck.

I should be able to shoot my first one tomorrow.

You have to, its deer management to control the numbers and restore the balance.

Where I'm going to hunt, public land, they require I shoot a doe first.
