wouldn't you know it

I slipped away from work a little early this afternoon to do a little hunting. The town I live in is having its first ever urban bowhunt. I had gotten permission to hunt a 26 acre tract of land within the city limits. I had scouted it out this past Saturday at mid-day. I found a little hardwood flat with a few acorns on the ground and 4 0r 5 fresh rubs and a scrape in that area. I carried my climber in this afternoon and got set up in a hickory tree about 4:30. Around 6:00 I heard a deer coming behind me. A 5 pt. walked by on the left side of me about 15 yards and spopped offering me a perfect broadside shot. About that time I caught a glimpse of another deer coming down the same trail as the first one, again offering me a perfect shot at 15 yards. He was about a 13" 8 pt. As he proceeded on down the trail I spotted a third deer coming down the same trail. He was a real nice 8 pt., long tines and about 16" inside. Again offered me a perfect broadside shot at 15 yards. I drew my Roy Hall longbow and picked a spot low and tight behind his right shoulder. As he started walking off I let it down. Why didn't I shoot? One of the rules of the urban hunt is the first deer taken must be a doe. Oh well, I had a great hunt, maybe the next one will be a doe.

Yeah I hear you man, doing the management thing can be a tough pill to swallow sometimes.
