Stu Miller's spine calculator
« on: October 07, 2010, 10:23:00 PM »
Now, stupid question. I have downloaded it, how do I make it go? I can open it in OpenOffice, but it is only a document, not an application. Or am I all screwed up?

You'll need Excel to operate it.

You need Microsoft Excel or equivalent for Calculator to work.

Does your office software have a spreadsheet application similar to Excel?

It claims that the openoffice will work, too, in fact, it even gives a link for the download.

i use openoffice and had no problem with opening stu's calculator. i think once you have downloaded openoffice first, and then the calculator, you shouldn't have a problem.

I did exactly that. I don't know how to start the calculator. I can open a document that tells me some "quick tips", but to start anything in the spreadsheet program no worky. Its just me, I'm a 'puter idjit.

i'm pretty much a computer bozo also. from what i can recall, i already had openoffice, did a search for the calculator, and clicked on the link that came up in the search, and then bookmarked it after. it just came up after i clicked on the link. hope i'm explaining this right.

are you sure you downloaded the calculator and not the instructions for it? they are both right next to each othe on Stus Website?

If you downloaded the right thing, open it with openoffice calc, and then click on one of the numbers for options and you should be able to change them.

Good luck

you're right, saumensch. the calculator comes up on the left, and the instructions for it to the right of the screen. then you scroll to the bottom, click, and there ya go.

http://www.heilakka.com/stumiller/

The calculator download is on the left about 3/4 way down the page.  The PDF instruction sheet is next to it on the right.

It is a good idea to download both.  The instruction sheet contains a lot of information base on numerous questions asked and answered on a number of forums
