If it's the same rope I had on a Loc-On, the rope doubles back and feeds inside of itself.  If the rope is relaxed, it can be extended, but if tight, it holds.  Prior to extended the Loc-On platform from the seat (mine had a hinge connection you could collapse the stand for travel), I would snug it up to the tree using the rope, and then extend the platform to the tree.  To remove, I would reverse those steps.  Hope this helps!

Ward's right...you can tighten it as tight as you can while it is collapsed, then when you extend the stand it locks tight...they work great, nice and quiet...

Think Chinese finger cuff.....  I have several Loc On's but only one with the rope.  Its lighter than the chains.  I always set up as above and then screw in a tree step below the rope behind the tree.

Been using the speed hitch rope since mid eighties. Much preferred over the chain. Faster, lighter, and a whole lot quieter. Never had any problems with them. I even use tree steps which fasten using the same type speed hitch rope system.
