How to finish antler
« on: May 24, 2007, 07:07:00 PM »
Well first off sorry to the moderators for another knife thread, but I couldnt help myself. After seeing all the threads on making knives I had to try it. First try is with a fileground to shape with antler scales and brass pins. just finished the handles at work today (while I should have been working, and was wondering what is a good way to finish / seal the antler after sanding. Here is how it looks now. I wanted to post pics of the build but camera issues prevented. sorry. well thanks again for any information ....matty

If it's as smooth as ya want it just take somew crazy glue and rub it all over the handle and wipe it off. Let it dry and I always use 600 grit steel wool and lightly rub it and them lightly buff on a wheel.<><

Drew Poly is great if ya want a shiny antler. CA glue give a light gloss and still looks natural and soak into the antler and stabilize it some.<><
