New Chekmate (Now w/ Pics)
« on: May 25, 2007, 09:00:00 AM »
Just got the new 56" 53# @ 29" Chekmate Hunter in the mail.  Walnut Limbs and Walnut/Shedua Riser.  Awesome bow and can't believe the difference in speed over my old Howatt Monterey.  Better technology I'm sure as the Howatt's pretty old.  I'm not a speed freak, it's just an observation.  I'll post pictures soon.  Wonderful craftsmanship and finish.

Anyway, for those of you who have a Chekmate recurve, what brace height did you settle into.  Chad's recurve.com says to start at 8" and that's what I'll begin with.  I've got a little vibration in the riser so I may need to increase that.  Just wondering where your's ended up.  Thanks.

I used to shoot my 58"s at around 8.5". Not sure where your 56" needs to be, but I can say that all 3 of the CMs I've owned shot best at a fairly high brace (8.5 or more).

Great bows, BTW:). Wish I had mine back.

I had some vibration on my CM Falcon too at an 8" brace height; when I went to 8 1/4" it went away.  Sticking a couple of small "string leeches" on the string really makes it quiet too.

Pops,
I ordered it from GMArchery out of Minnesota as I couldn't wait that long.  Still custom in my book as it was just what I was looking for.

Chappy, congrats on your purchase.Im sure you will love it.As for brace height, it really depends on quite a few different things; arrow weight, draw length, string material, shooter's form, only to mention a few.Best thing to do ; play play play . 8" is a good start but don't be afraid to experiment.Personally mine shoots best at 7 5/8" with heavy [12gp#] arrows.  P.S. Post some pictures

Well she ended up at 8 1/2" for brace height and I had to go with the 125points instead of the 145 gn. I had on for my other 'curve of the same poundage.  It was easier than cutting the arrow more.  I'll get pic up ASAP.
