Don't take a day off from hunting...
« on: October 27, 2010, 06:58:00 PM »
Went to look at a piece of land I wasn't too interested in instead of hunting after work.  Got done with that, got home and grabbed the binos to see what was near one of my stands...

A beautiful 8 point was closer to that stand than any deer has been this year so far.     They were really moving around here tonight.

This is my first year hunting without wheels and I've had more fun already than I've had bowhunting for a few years.  Missed a pheasant and a squirrel but no good shot opportunities on a deer yet.

Think I'm gonna have to make it a long weekend!

A buddy called me and wanted to get a couple of beers this evening and I had planned to hunt.  I went for the beers.  Good friends are hard to find and there always will be deer.

I over slept one day, looked out the front door at 7am and found a bunch of deer "right there" in front of my house. Don't think I'm gonna let that happen again without me being outside and ready!

A few years back, my dad and I had been hunting all week and decided to sleep in one morning after about 5 days of hunting all day.  My step mom was out running errands that morning and came back in the house saying she saw a nice 10pt cross the road about 100 yards from our stands.  Needless to say, we got ready and hit the woods.  Luckily for us, he ending up getting that same deer later that day.  Keep at it, I bet you'll get another shot at him.

Earlier in Sept I slept in because I was really sick the two days prior. Pulled the card from my camera from my ground blind where I sit in the morning on my way to my evening tree stand. Shot a nice bear that night. Was very happy with my 150lb bear until I checked the card. A 400lb bear was 10 yards from the blind at 9:51 that morning. Should have been there! Still love the one in the hand though:)

Instead of sleeping in I made the effort to go to my ground blind and sleep. I opened my eyes a few times during my "nap". One time that I opened my eyes a nice doe was peeking in my blind window. I waited till she walked away and shot her at about 17 yards.
