Duco and glue on nocks. Advice please
« on: October 28, 2010, 10:16:00 PM »
all,

just got done gluing on a dozen index nocks with Duco.  It sort of pisses me off that duco melts the nocks and then I have a mess.  What does everyone else use or what am I doing wrong???  I am probably using too much but I have a hard time believing it is stuck if I dont see glue squeeze out.

Caleb,  That's how Duco and Fletch tite work.  They soften The plastic to make the bond. You just need enough to just wet the inside of the nock when you twist it onto the taper.  Think of a drop of glue a little smaller that a standard BB.

I use Duco for woodies and fletch tite for aluminum. Never had a problem with nocks, a little bit of glue for a nock goes a long way. I put a dab of glue on the shaft, put the nock on and give it a spin to spread the glue evenly and push it tight ... if you get glue squeeze your using too much.

I use Duco all the time for nocks. Sounds like you're using too much. Like what was said above. A small drop and twist it on.

I never used anything else. Just put a drop on the taper, and twist the nock as you install it to make sure you have a good contact.

I have used both on woods and never a problem.Just a drop. Fletchtite works awesome when you just put a small amount. Make sure if you crown dipped the shafts that you sand the taper(if you tapered before crown dipping)the glue may react with the type of paint you used.

I use the 'crazy glue' gel-keeps nocks in place longer.

The problem with crazy glue is that the cheaper tubes don't manage the glue well. Once when using it, I got it on my fingers and the first thing I did was glued my fingers to my nose.  Just like when I broke my nose with a broom handle teaching my daughter, when she was little how to do pull ups.  She let go and I cracked my nose with the broom handle. Seems I touch my nose about 20 or 30 seconds when it is broken or I have super glue on my fingers.  Duco smells way way way better than crazy glue.
